We are building an Archive to embrace the history of games

Embracer Games Archive

For us, games are more than just games. Its culture! It is something created by great people with creative ideas. By building a large archive of physical games, we want to preserve and tribute the games culture for a long period of time.

Hello

For us at Embracer Games Archive, games are an important part of our shared history. Games are works of art that have influenced and inspired people and culture over the past decades. Our ambition is to be part of the greater work being done to preserve gaming history through our archive of physical games.

It is an important investment that the Embracer Group is doing in past, present and future history.

Being a patron of video games history, the goal of the archive is to be a part of the community that preserves and documents games history by collaborating with institutions, grass root movements, journalists, researchers, publishers and studios – not only for the Embracer group but for the whole industry. By doing so we promote and help build the heritage of games which is something that will benefit the entire games industry in the long run.

Archive status

  • The archive currently holds over 80,000 objects, including games, consoles, and accessories.
  • A dedicated team consists of the CEO, archivist, technical engineer, and supply manager.
  • All objects in the archive are now cataloged in our database. We are working on making the database accessible on our website so everyone can explore what the archive contains.
  • We network and collaborate with other initiatives focused on video game preservation.
  • The archive serves as a resource to promote gaming culture and history. Today, we support researchers, educators, exhibitions, and people within the gaming industry.

Contribute to the archive

Embracer Games Archive is actively seeking video games that are not yet in the archive, both hardware and software. If you have a collection that you want to sell or believe may be of interest to us, please contact our Acquisitions Manager, Thomas Sunhede. Please include photos, lists of the objects, as well as your valuation.

We currently don’t have an official wanted list, but in the future, we will post individual games we’re on the look for or specific platforms for which we are looking to complete. In the future, you will also be able to access our database more easily to see what is in the archive.
